What if irony is serious and sincere? Writer and Editor John Warner discusses contemporary attitudes about what is funny, and the idea that 9/11 represented the death of irony and that the United States would thereafter take everything seriously, in a lecture presented by the MFA Design Criticism Department in partnership with Mailchimp.

Warner is the author of four books, including recent novel The Funny Man (Soho Press, 2012). He is currently the editor at large for McSweeney's Internet Tendency, a co-color commentator for The Morning News's "Tournament of Books," a weekly columnist for the Chicago Tribune Printers Row Journal and a blogger for Inside Higher Ed. He is a faculty member in the English Department at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
