Samuel Moyn is James Bryce Professor of European Legal History at Columbia University. He works primarily on the history of human rights and modern European intellectual history, with special interests in France and Germany, political and legal thought, historical and critical theory, and Jewish studies. His latest book is The Last Utopia: Human Rights in History (Harvard, 2010), and he has also edited the recent volumes Rethinking Modern European Intellectual History (Oxford, 2013), Global Intellectual History (Columbia, 2013), and The Breakthrough: Human Rights in the 1970s (University of Pennsylvania, 2013).
