Claudia La Rocco with Paul Chan: The Best Most Useless Dress
Thursday 23 October, 2014
6:30 - 8:30pm, $0
SVA MFA Art Criticism and Writing
132 West 21 Street, Floor 7
Claudia La Rocco reads from and discusses her new book, The Best Most Useless Dress (Badlands Unlimited, 2014), a collection of selected writings featuring poetry, criticism, and performance texts. How do different types of writing inform and diverge from each other, and what is it to be working in these various modes and disciplines in 2014? She will be joined by Badlands Unlimited publisher Paul Chan—as it turns out, the idea for the book was born at El Quijote, in a conversation with Chan following his visit to a Writing I class La Rocco was teaching.
Claudia La Rocco has performed at such places as Danspace Project, San Francisco’s Center for New Music, and Counterpath Press in Denver. She founded thePerformanceClub.org, which won a 2011 Creative Capital/Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant and focuses on criticism as a literary art. She serves on the board of the Poetry Project, is a member of the Off the Park poetry press and contributes regularly to the New York Times and ARTFORUM. La Rocco is on the faculty of the Art Criticism and Writing program and will be a guest artist at Stanford University in spring 2015.
