The symposium Close to Now is part of Kunstverein München's ongoing project entitled ‘Door Between Either and Or’, which brings together contributions from individuals and initiatives whose practices embody a more fluid approach to borders than has been classically determined by Institutional Critique. Close to Now will focus on the relationship between Institutional Critique and current social and political institutions––as well as the subsumption of difference, or its absorption into an institutional program.

Close to Now will include contributions by Helmut Draxler (presented by Ulrike Müller), John Miller (presented by John Beeson), Ariane Müller, Laura Poitras, and Cop Watch NYC. The title, Close to Now, has been contributed by Louise Lawler.

Close to Now has been organized by TND, a book series edited by John Beeson, Daniel Herleth, and Cameron Rowland, on the invitation of Kunstverein München in collaboration with Goethe-Institut New York.
