A presentation by art therapist Eileen McGann and social psychologist Vincent Grande focusing on the development of an arts and creative therapies program for youth who have experienced complex traumas and their families. They discuss examples of individual art therapy sessions addressing complex traumas, crisis intervention, family art therapy, group works and community building through the arts; collaboration with educational and residential staff; and innovative methods of conducting art therapy research. The principles, case examples and research will demonstrate the ideology and practice of creating sanctuary and the implicit knowledge of art as therapy.
