Barnard International Artists Series is proud to welcome the Delhi-based trio Raqs Media Collective, world-renowned artists whose work intersects contemporary art, historical enquiry, and philosophical speculation. In part, their work responds to historys ghosts, restlessness, and todays India. In the words of The Guardian: They make videos, high-tech objects, installations, and online projects exploring a world reshaped by globalisation.

This will be a rare opportunity to hear the artists discuss their work and the ideas that inspire them. The collective is a group of three media practitioners: Jeebesh Bagchi, Monica Narula, and Shuddhabrata Sengupta. Raqs is best known for its contributions to contemporary art, and has presented work at most of the major international shows, from documenta, in Kassel, Germany, to the Venice Biennale. In 2008, Raqs members were cocurators of the European Biennial of Contemporary Art. More recently, their work has been exhibited at the Baltimore Museum of Art; the Ullens Centre for Contemporary Art in Beijing; the Contemporary Art Centre of New Orleans, and the Photographers and Frith Street Galleries in London. The collective is active in an unusually wide range of domains, and it is perhaps this breadth that gives their work its originality and scope.
