The financial collapse of 2008 hit the New York theatre especially hard. Donations dried out, many organizations and spaces closed, artists even left the city.

Recognizing the challenge New York City’s cultural department and other organizations started collaborating with many existing institutions to find creative solution to support New York City artists.

New initiatives were created to address the ongoing crisis and as a result new spaces opened, existing institutions got additional help, and innovative programs were designed to support artists.

Join us to learn more about the A.R.T./New York’s new theater spaces; The League of Independent Theaters’ Charter Barter program in schools; the Art Space’s housing initiative; The Actors Fund job training program; One Percent For Culture’s citywide campaign and many more support initiatives you should know about. Short presentations about important programs and initiatives will be followed by a town hall meeting to discussing the future of New York’s vibrant and significant theatre.
