Quartz is a digitally native business news outlet, geared towards the interests and sensibilities of citizens of the new global economy. Based in New York, and with correspondents in London, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Delhi, Mumbai, and Washington D.C., Quartz prioritizes in-depth coverage and open access to its reporting data, and encourages the use of its own open source data visualization software. Co-founder and editor in chief Kevin J. Delaney will talk about the rise of digital storytelling in news making, and specifically how he continues to build and iterate Quartz as a web app, as a brand, and as a new genre of business journalism.

Kevin J. Delaney is editor in chief and president of Quartz, which he co-founded in 2012. He was a reporter at The Wall Street Journal for a decade, with that time split between hardship postings in Paris and San Francisco, before becoming managing editor of WSJ.com, where he led efforts that helped greatly expand the Journal’s online readership and championed innovative journalism projects that went on to win prizes. Early in his career, Kevin was a reporter for SmartMoney Magazine and a TV producer in Montreal. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and is the Hearst digital media professional-in-residence at Columbia University for 2014-15.
