In support of the much-anticipated Marcel Broodthaers retrospective organized by Christophe Cherix at the Museum of Modern Art (February 14 – May 15), the Broodthaers Society of America invites you to an open house of its research and residency facilities on Sunday, January 17th, from 1:00-4:00pm.

The Broodthaers Society of America is a meeting point for a loose collection of artists and scholars dedicated to fostering an expanded interpretation of the late, great Belgian artist in the context of the United States. Founded in the Bronx in 2013, the BSA launched a website in 2015 to serve as a global nexus for inspiration, critical reflection, and fandom. Now, in 2016, we are pleased to open the doors of our inaugural project space to the local New York City audience. Refreshments will be served.

The Broodthaers Society of America is located uptown at 520 West 143rd Street in Harlem, between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue. The nearest subway stops are the 1 at Broadway/145th Street and the A/B/C/D at 145th Street/Saint Nicholas.

Come join us and peruse The Reading Room, a growing collection of editions, artist’s books, catalogues, and scholarly work on the artist, available for research by appointment;

MBnb, the Broodthaers Society of America’s short term accommodations, available through Airbnb;

The Atlas Lounge, occasional social hours dedicated to drinking, casual conversation, art world gossip, drinking, fish stories, Broodthaers lore, and drinking;

Speaker’s Corner, an ongoing stream of musings, coincidences, love notes, and critiques curated by artist Sowon Kwon and inspired by Marcel Broodthaers’ stint at the legendary public speech venue in Hyde Park, London; and

L’oeil Vigilant, a poetry magazine in the form of a surveillance feed for your smartphone, edited by artist Joe Scanlan. Season one includes work by E L Burchfield, Allana Clarke, Vincent Meessen, Vanessa Place, and George Weinberg.
