The Anne Hill Blanchard Uncommon Artists Lecture Series highlights new and important contributions to the field of folk and self-taught art. The annual series honors the late Anne Hill Blanchard, an inspiring and passionate leader in the field and a devoted supporter of the American Folk Art Museum.

Helga Christoffersen is Assistant Curator at the New Museum in New York. She was part of the curatorial team for Pipilotti Rist: Pixel Forest (2016), The Keeper (2016), Nicole Eisenman: Al-ugh-ries (2016), the third New Museum Triennial, Surround Audience (2015), and Here and Elsewhere (2014). She has also curated solo exhibitions with Cally Spooner (2016), Eva Papamargariti (2016), Leonor Antunes (2015), Lili Reynaud Dewar (2014), David Horvitz (2014) and Hannah Sawtell (2014). Previously she was Assistant Curator of the 55th Venice Biennale, The Encyclopedic Palace, in 2013 and coordinator of the Danish Pavilion at the 54th Venice Biennale in 2011. Currently she is working on an upcoming show of Carol Rama.

Anne Monahan is an independent scholar working on a book on Horace Pippin. Her research, which focuses on issues of race and aesthetics in modern and contemporary art, has been supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Phillips Collection/George Washington University, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Society for the Preservation of American Modernists. She has published articles in Nineteenth Century Studies, The Journal of the Archives of American Art, and Nka: The Journal of Contemporary African Art, and essays in several museum catalogues.

Laura Steward is the director of advancement and exhibition programs at the Santa Fe Institute, a complexity science research institute. From 2012 to 2015, she ran Laura Steward Projects, representing visionary and folk artists. She served as Phillips Director and Chief Curator at SITE Santa Fe from 2005 to 2010. She came to SITE Santa Fe from the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art where she was the founding curator. While at MASS MoCA, she was an adjunct faculty member at Williams College and Bennington College.
