Jews in the Soviet Union faced severe restrictions on their right to practice their religion and were barred from freely leaving the country. From the 1960s through the collapse of the Soviet Union, American Jews responded to this oppression by organizing, protesting, and advocating on behalf of their Soviet brothers and sisters. At this event, Aryeh will reflect on this historic movement in a panel discussion with three experts. The panel with include Gal Beckerman, author of a history of the movement, When they Come for Us, We'll be Gone: The Epic Struggle to Save Soviet Jewry, Glenn Richter, founder of the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry, and Israel Zalmanson, Soviet refusenik and Prisoner of Zion. Dore Feith will moderate.
