This talk will be delivered by Meg Jacobs (Princeton). Her talk is titled "Panic at the Pump: The Energy Crisis of the 1970s and the Transformation of American Politics."
Meg Jacobs teaches American History and Politics at Princeton University. Her latest book, Panic at the Pump, explores how the energy crisis shocked the country and forever changed American politics. If Vietnam and Watergate taught citizens that their leaders could not be trusted, the energy crisis taught them that government did not work. With long gas lines and soaring prices, the oil shocks of the decade undermined confidence in Washington to solve problems.
